As winter approaches our Thursday night ride moves indoors, and to a great new venue in Clowne Sports Centre!
Not got a turbo, dont worry ...we have limited units available to rent for a small additional fee
Sessions are coached, and a great way to keep fit during winter
B&DCC adds to its portfolio of sessions to keep you fit and motivated through the winter months with the addition of some spinning sessions...
Sessions take place at the Clowne Sports Centre and Ten bikes are available to be booked for a small fee of just £3
Our instructor, Lucy is a great motivator and designs the sessions specifically for cyclists
Lots of us use Sufferfest movies to motivate us to keep training during winter when on the Turbo Trainer, and they help push you that little bit harder..if you want a Sufferfest download, then by purchasing through the link above you will be giving the club the benefit of a small amount of commission
The 2013 edition of the Hardwick Hillclimb saw 50 riders take part in the event, building significantly in the success of previous editions and embedding the event as a firm favourite in the local calendar. This year saw course records tumble with new benchmarks set by Michael Timmins in the senior men and Alex deck in the senior Women. The Club records tumbled too !
Thanks to Maxifuel for support, with their Viper energy gels topping up the cash prize pot .
The magic circuit at Birchall golf course came back in a new and improved version for 2013 , with the nasty climb from the start loop replaced with some fantastic extra singletrack and a wooded switchbacking climb..Feedback confirmed that this coursewas the best XC race that Birchall has ever seen !
We hope to be back for another event at Birchall in 2014
The 2012/2013 Cyclo Cross Season has ended and with record participation from B&DCC members we are pleased to announce we have our first age category winner..
Congratulations Graham Whiting V60 NDCXL Cyclo Cross Champion !!
There were many other noteworthy results from the other members, including 3rd place in the V60's from Alan Maddocks, 3rd from Mick Fairest in the V55's and at the other end of teh age scale, 4th in the U9's from Dylan Richardson.
The season has been great fun, with a great family atmosphere from The Steeds at several events, and loads of members having fun and getting stuck in.
Bring on 2013/2014...
On Remembrance Sunday, the club rides grouped together at the Cenotaph in Bolsover and placed a wreath in rememberance of our fallen heroes. A minutes silence was held in recognition of those who have sacrificed, those still serving and in honour of those club members who have served in our Armed Forces.
Theres so much going off in this club, that we are sure that there must be a ride for any cyclist out there !
Bolsover and District Cycling Club have just been awarded the honour of "Club of the Year" in the 2012 Bolsover District Sports Awards.
With stiff competition, the club has taken the prize in recognition for its efforts in developing cycling activities in the Bolsover District, including a full calendar of rides, promoting competitive events and helping numerous riders overcome challenges of all descriptions to build a new level of health & fitness...
Thanks to every single member who participates in the rides and especially those that contribute much much more in the running of the club and its activities
Thanks to everyone who contributed in making our promotion of the first round of the Notts & Derbys Cyclo Cross season such a success.
The attendance was a record for the NDCXL with over 330 riders across the different categories taking part
Thanks also to the National Trust at Hardwick for allowing us to promote an event in such beautiful surroundings.
Plenty of Green & Black clad riders also rode the event with some encouraging performances for the season ahead
On the 15th April , B&DCC hosted the third round of the Midlands XC series at Birchall, Dronfield. Id like to say "now the dust has settled" but plenty of rain transformed what would have been an amazing course into something as far removed from dusty as you can get.
Big thanks to all those that supported the course design, course grooming and especially those that supported on the day, feedback from the vast majority of riders has been great, and we hope to run a round again next year
Check out the video or for full details about the series, and for the results visit http://midlandsxc.wordpress.com/
In recent weeks the club has dipped its toe a little further into the murky depths of competitive cycle sport.
With a Road Racing team consisiting of Simon Travell, Jono Dexter, Xavier Scott, Steve Crapper, Alex Whiting, Lee Hyson and Benjamin Davies all taking part in recent local events, many of them for the first time
There have been some crashes, and some poor luck with punctures but the team does show some promise and with Jono Dexter placing highly in several of the NMRRL races and taking second place in the recent Thoresby Race, a win may well be on the cards this year !
Fancy being a part of our team?
On 7th April , our own Pete Steed entered the Uk & European 24hr Solo MTB championships at Newcastleton. How anyone can possibly race for a full 24 hours on their own is beyond us, but Pete eats these types of events so much that he had a goal of a top 10 finish !
Despite snapping his frame part way in, and having to race the remainder on a borrowed bike from his brother, Pete acheived his goal and finished an amazing 7th Place from 43 Finishers !
We say Well Done to Pete for an inspirational ride, that you can read all about right here and thanks to his support crew too
Bring on Mountain Mayhem 2012 and the 5 teams from B&DCC !
Its with thanks to the combined generosity of Derbyshire County Councillors Ken Stevenson, Joan Dixon and Anne Western that the club has today received a cheque for £450 from the DCC Community Leadership Fund.
The money will go to help grow the clubs activities for young people and develop our Go-Ride offer for 2012.
Our thanks go to the three councillors for their support
Many of us the club riders are now using Strava to log their rides using a GPS or Smartphone App, and are logging times for our "segments"
...Feel free to join us in logging on Strava, but ill warn you now !! its addictive !
Not content with just taking advantage of the off road trails around us, the club is keen to improve them, and we have several initiatives running in conjunction with Bolsover Countryside Partnership.
Several members mucked in recently to cut back the overgrowth from Ovencroft lane, leading off Elmton Lane in Bolsover.
Thanks to Simon Gaddes, Gary Hibbard , Martin & Aaron Young, Steve & Georgia Crapper, Steve Moslin and David Connley for chipping in and putting in a few hours graft to make this trail passible again.
Do you have a favourite trail that needs some attention? then get in touch and let us know !!
Our Cyclo Cross team for the 2011/2012 season is getting bigger and better. At the last race there were 10 senior riders, including our first lady.
With a couple more inspired to join by what they saw, looks like we could have a team thats 12 or 13 strong in the next few weeks..
now if only someone hadnt gone and damaged this performance by double booking some social event next Saturday...
Our own Hero, Craig Preece was a guest on the Pride of Britain awards this week, representing those members of our Armed Forces who have given so much in the recent conflicts.
Craig himself was seriously injured by an IED in Afghanistan and lost his leg, but is bouncing back with some true grit and has some amazing cycling ambitions of 2012 including the race across America.
Craig (left) is pictured here meeting World Champion Mark Cavendish and World Champion paracyclist Jon Allan Butterworth at the awards.
Watch this space for more content on Craig and his ambitions ...

B&DCC continues its attempt to cater for all cycling niches, with the intention of forming a regular "touring" group by organising a set of evening and weekend rides in the summer.
With enough numbers we will attempt to form a formal CTC group, and organise a wider portfolio of rides throughout the year

8 brave club members followed in the footsteps of explorers of old and took the lengthy journey to seek out new worlds on the 8th October. Finding a promising new land locally known as "Dalby Forest" and exploring its challenging red route that had been so carefully marked out by the Natives.
Not all survived unscathed, but all returned with most limbs intact to their wives and children.
Club Member , Mark Bridgman Smith has discovered a new part for your bike while touring the african rainforest it would seem....this extended portion of your seattube is called a probiscis
Wikipedia have been contacted to amend their records as soon as is possible
