At quarter past ten we (Dylan, Joel, Caitlin and Myself) set off from the Sherwood Pines visitor centre followed behind by our parents, we headed off along the blue route and soon came along a fun skills loop which we went around for about ten minutes, we then carried along the blue route for about twenty minutes. We had a bit of a rest and then carried on and we were having so much fun ! Near the end of the trail we found an excellent jump out of the woods where we all had a great time jumpi...

MTB Enduro 22nd April

"You have to have grim rides to appreciate the good ones"  so after yesterdays ride at the Dark and White MTB Enduro, I should have some awesome rides to look forward to!!!

What a pig of a ride! I have ridden most of the paths on the route before and in dry conditions it would have been a cracking course. Yesterday was a slightly different scene though - piddling down with rain, cold wind, horrible wet slippy deep mud, slippery limestone and flooded tracks with big deep puddles to...

Mtbing at it's finest,on a day youd have thought was mid June by looking at the weather. The number of entrants was quite staggering, and judging by the names on some of the vans scattered around the over full car parks, they had come from all over Britain and indeed were alot of our finest riders,it was at this point it dawned on me WTF am I doing here:) The racing was gd to see,and I could appreciate the skill and speed of these guys. I was in the 2:30 race wihich consisted o... Read Full Post »

when I arrived at Cannock it was snowing heavy cold and very wet,so im in waterproofs putting the bike together when I notice the front tyres flat...hmm,by the time I've sorted it I'm running late to get a practise lap in so I just have ride thro the woods to warm up. Off with the wet gear and on with the club jersey :) ,the circuit was very good,a mix of fast fire roads, very slippery off camber rooted woods sections and very twisty up and down muddy single track with a few logs and dr... Tuesday MTB Ride

Tonight's ride quickly embedded itself as one to put behind us....For various reasons that in the interests of good writing in the vein of Sesame Street, all begin loosely with the letter F..

Five riders tonight,  Vern Richardson, Simon Gaddes, Bob Smith , new rider John Lambert and me

Failure no 1 - Johns lights just weren't up to the task, he was riding with s...

Rode at hickton lodge this morning, awsum race for the time of year, icey in practise, this soon turned to slimey mud in the woods and grassy sections as the sun got higher,i mopped a fair bit of it up with my jersey ,when i hit the ground on a couple of ocasions ,not entirley my fault but thats racing for ya.

Despite Simons careful calculations to make sure that this week’s ride was to start from the Black Horse at Whaley, to take advantage of the free chips on offer after their pool tournament, i managed to balls this up by announcing it was to start from the Horse & Groom.

Pines MTB Ride 29th Dec

Posted by Steve Crapper on December 30, 2011 at 2:45 AM Comments comments (2)

I slept fitfully the night before ,listening to the howling wind trying to outdo my double glazing and the hammer of driving rain outside.

At 8am my thumb hovered over the send button on a group SMS intended to kill the ride, but then the weather seemed to ease a little...the "get out and ride" devil victorious in a battle over the "daytime TV" devil on my shoulder

As the wife was working, kids were ejected at my mothers and i drove over to the Pines , to park up alo...

MTB Ride 29th November

Do you ever find yourself surprised by the flavour of a chocloate from a selection box, when you have ignored the index card...have you ever read a book without a cover, have you ever gone home with a girl who really should be worth 2 or 3 pints more, only to find she has an amazing body !!

Well i have come to the conclusion that we should treat our weather exactly the same.

If we had believed the weather reports and the actual weather just 90 minutes earlier, then this ride most...

Evil Sherriff Duathlon 6th Nov

Posted by Jules on November 6, 2011 at 1:55 PM Comments comments (3)

Flew the flag for B&DCC at the Evil Sherriff Duathlon at Sherwood Pines today. Wore my nice new club kit which soon became very mud splattered on the bike leg. It was a beautiful sunny autumn morning and the first run was quite pleasant. I set off really steady to save some energy for what was to come. I had been panicking about the bike section, as some of you are already aware! The event description said it was going to be 'technical uphill and downhill sections' so I was quite nervous ...

MTB Night Ride 18th October

Being in the blue Bell car park, exposed to a strong, cold wind reminded me that winter was certainly well on its way. This week I was reasonably well prepared though, I had layered up, brought the full fingered gloves and remembered my Exposure light.

Id done my best to encourage numbers for this ride, but many of the usuals had excuses, some work related, some down to Injury. What I did know is that we had a potential new member, Bob Smith keen to ride with us, and as he origi...

Cannock MTB Trip 24th June

Posted by Steve Crapper on June 24, 2011 at 12:23 PM Comments comments (3)

Eleven of us "boys" met at the Blue Bell at 8am for a quick jaunt down to Cannock Chase..its about twenty years since i raced XC at cannock and it brings back some good memories..especially of the "Bomb holes".

Some jiggery pokery to maximise the carrying capacity of the cars and limit our carbon footprint saw us head off in three full cars with loads of metal strapped on.

The day was warm and sunny , and a good day off work to visit a trail Centre..we started steady, Cannock is t...

MTB Ride 10th may 11

I nearly chickened out...

I drove home watching an ominous dark cloud develop near home, spending the journey trying to determine what direction the wind was blowing the nasty clouds...

A quick text around those that had posted were coming restored my faith (or at least kicked my arse into gear) with everyone coming back saying lets do it !! a few drops of rain and the bugger of a cloud passed over, so i headed over to the Horse & Groom , with a quick detour back home to colle...
