It was the day after St Davids day, leeks were still coursing through our veins. Andy had cried off because he had man flu and I was recovering from a severe winter cold. Not looking forward riding in the freezing temeratures at all. As I arrived in the car park I was pleasantly surprised to see 4 other riders waiting for the off. We hung around a bit for Vern to arrive then set off a little after 6.30. Six hardy soles ready to face all that Scarcliffe and its surrounding trails could throw at us.
I had my new deal extreem 50 quid, 900 lumin lamps attached to my handlebars, what a set of lights. I ran them on full power all night and they never missed a beat although I would suggest they are not quite 900 lumins, still very bright and great value though. We dove into the 1st woodland section straight into claggy mud, we crossed the stream and found some more mud, a bit of respite from the mud while going up the steep hill in Scarcliffe wood then back into some more mud. A short section of road followed by some mud. In all we rode around 13 miles, 12 miles of which were quite muddy.
Everyone enjoyed the ride, it was at a fairly steady pace all ride and we arrived back at the pub just before 9. I have been racking my brain and can honestly say the only negative about the ride was the lack of Pork Pie at the end. The Landlord, Winston had the fire roaring up the fire back when we landed back where we enjoyed a couple of pints and a social chat before Jonka and I went to look at a couple of Badger sets. More riders please at the Blue Bell in Bolsover on the 9th, Andy is mended so we don't have to rely on my shonkey navigational skills for this ride.
