The BBC Weather forcaster said is was going to rain and for once they were right. I had a text conversation with our ruffty tuffty Chairman who claim's "RAIN DOESN'T BOTHER ME", he managed to dig up some excuse about his contact lenses and backed out. Seeing things is for wimps.
In all 4 riders turned out in that "fine rain that wets you through", a pair of first timers, John Grainger (a new member) and Lee Mellor who we hope will be a new member soon. The old bloke Andy and I joined them, down the grassy bank to the rear of the Castle, diving into the woodland through onto the Stockley Trail, onto Glapwell then Bramley Vale and into
murder wood, up the slippery slope to Ault Hucknal, skirting round the rear of Hardwick Hall onto the Rowthorn Trail up to Pleasley, through a coppice into Scarcliffe, over the Blue Banks at Hillstown and back to the relative warmth of the Blue Bell sitting in the conservatory to enjoy our well earned pints.
Even wearing a waterproof top, shower resistant trousers and seal skin socks every part of me was wet through, still if I can enjoy a ride ignoring the risk of trenchfoot and drowning anyone can.
