Tuesday Mucky Road Ride

Posted by Mark Renshaw on January 24, 2012 at 3:50 PM

Three of us set out this Tuesday Paul, Ian and Myself, and with the absence of Lee it was up to Paul to take over in the talking department. Good ride never the less - As I was running Late Paul and Ian met me at my house and from there we picked our ride - which - as many of you will know who have been with the Tuesday ride before, bore absolutely no resemblance to the route actually taken. For a start we were to ride to Pleasley, however a quick decision later and we were turning and heading to Glapwell, ah well, in for a penny, A run down Batley lane took us toward Norwood, Up to Teversall, Down to Hardwick and then the long steady climb to Heath. From Heath to Sutton Scarsdale, then Carr Lane took us up to Palterton (the first of two Virgin Hills for me tonight), a quick trip took us into Bolsover - it was there I decided that Paul wasn't to get his bragging rights of how he had to climb Bolsover hill in the first place to get to us, so I took that on as well, (The 2nd Virgin climb for me) - Not sure of the Mileage tonight - but it doesn't matter really - We got back a little muddier and wetter than started but at least the weather wasn't too bad.

Yeah i do a figure of 8 loop which makes about 43 miles and covers the Shireoaks area and then makes it's way over to the area you did so it's a great mix of back lanes with a few cheeky gradients chucked in. The bends at the bottom of Rylah can be dodgy with traffic so it pays to ride extra carefully. We'll have to sort out a ride doing some of the local hills and give them a score out of 10 for fun.
Hi Lee, the BDCC polka dot challenge does exist it takes in 12 or so of the 25 lumps in the parish, Badger and I did the first half last year, you do end up repeating certain bits of road to get all the hills in, but it is quite a day out. but at any point you are never very far from home. It would (in my opinion) make a good club run. cheers

That's the difference between you and I Lee - You may score a hill out of 10 for "fun" where as I may use the same scoring mechanism as a means of grading how screwed I am after reaching the summit. and ps.. shhhhh... don't tell everyone about the Kuoto - might be getting a budget for pretty much full new kit

Ooooooh full new kit/groupset would be really sweet Mark, if you want any advice just ask mate. Most hills ridden at a suitable pace can be kinda nice, hehe:)

worked out to be 26 miles Lee, according to Paul you have a loop to add to that for fairer weather making just over 40 - look forward to that one - just 2 local hills to master now - Castle lane and (can't remember the name of it) the road that runs from Junct 29 and up side by side with Carr Lane.... aparantly Rylah Hill

You'll be flying when you have your 'new' sexy Kuota :)

That's a great route Mark, i'd guess you racked up about 30miles. Shame i couldn't make it his week:(. CarrLane is a peach of a climb. I don't talk quite as much these days because it causes too much drag, lol. Well done on nailing CarrLane and Boza Hill/Station rd.
