Cyclo Cross; Steve Crapper - Well Done.

Posted by BigV on February 4, 2012 at 2:50 PM

Congratulations to Steve on taking club honours as number one rider in the NDCXL competition. The snow started as five of us - Steve, Craig, Alan, Martin and myself - headed to the start line of the final race in this year's contest. Steve clearly had it in mind that he wanted to demonstrate that he deserves the honours and did so by badgering The Badger for a number of laps; he sat on his wheel and jumped him from behind - they really are the best of friends.... - off the last bend, sprinting to finish a rims width ahead. I seem to recall leading a rather sickly Steve to the finish of this course last year. He did the same to me...

Well done Steve.

A gentle nudge gents.

Next years season is only just over 6 months away !

Does anybody perhaps want to start talking to Paul about a training plan ?

Yes, definitely well done Steve for winning the club honours, also well done to everyone who's participated in any of the events this season. It's been a great season with much variety, ranging from the type of courses with some of them like Alfreton being hilly, others having plenty of technical single tracks like the course at Sherwood Pines to the course just completed at Darley Moor which was pan flat. The weather also varied dramatically ranging from an unseasonal heat wave at Thornbridge to this weekend's temperatures of minus 3 degrees. The weather impacted on the courses making them extremes from the unbelievably muddy to the frozen rock hard. It's this variety plus the camaraderie of our team mates that makes cyclo-cross so enjoyable. Like all of us I've had highs and low points this season and I've learnt allot, especially concerning bike maintenance and how this impacts on your performance not to say if you will finish a race or not. Also yesterday was the first time I noticed how the Thursday night turbo training sessions run by Paul Jezewski was improving my riding with a passing move on the last lap. With Paul's help we should all be flying next season, I can hardly wait...

GOOD RIDIN EVERYONE !!!

Thanks Steve and everyone else who have competed this season. I have thoroughly enjoyed the races although sometimes my face has not conveyed that. Personally i need to review my efforts and plan for next year. I'll take a rest and then look to speak to Paul and Graham and see how I can train and improve next season.. As Cyclocross secretary I will be looking to promote the sport to youngsters so the club can develope in this discipline.

Sleve can you let me have info on the Summer cyclocross you have mentioned in previous club meetings.

I am a bit racked with guilt after pipping the badger on the line in this one...This wasnt my race today. I couldnt find the pace and i couldnt get decide where would be suitable to attack, as every corner was becoming Icy , and there wasnt much more than 50 to 100m between the corners...The wide sections had actually turned into Singletrack if you deviated from the ride most ridden it was like riding over big rocks !..
Craig did a great job today, he did attack me once and i knew he would do again, so it was a bit of cat and mouse, but it made the race more enjoyable for me..thanks mate, i missed you the rest of the season, looking forward to the next and some good battles !

Well done Vern & Martin for keeping their battle going to the end and a big well done to Alan especially for doing so well in his first cross season

Great effort today from all The B&DCC riders. Hats off to Steve for taking the club honours. Alan topped a great first season by finishing 3rd in his category (We think!) Both Martin and Vernon have been very consistent all season. I have only entered 5 events and was pleased to achieve my highest placing of the season. I did my best to beat Mr Crapper even achieving a new max heart rate of 194 in the final sprint but he had racing tactics spot on. Sitting on my wheel for 30 minutes while I did all the graft!!. (i'm not bitter, honest ;-))

It was a great race and I really enjoyed it so I will be back next season for the entire series. It was great to have so many new faces involved in the cross this year. Let's hope it carries on into next season.
