Thursday; the most gifted night of the week during these current wet months,
because at about 6 o’clock for the past 3 weeks even if the weather was very poor during the day it broke in time for Cycling!.....
The turn out has been improving exponentially as the weeks go on, commencing with me billy no mates! (good job really as I got lost and had to phone my dad!!), a swift two laps 2up week 2 stopped only by flat batteries and 5 last week, (good to meet Gary and Rich)
The view west as you head out from Clowne is beautiful and really sets you up and helps clear your head from the working day, let’s face it night rides are not really ones for “a nice view” however we did get an eyeful of a startled courting couple last week courtesy of Gary’s “daylight” quality bikelight.
The roads are quiet and quick, and the first lap passes quickly and sets you up for more, at present the teams have shyed away from the climb up to Oxcroft from Stanfree, but not next week!
Rich showed his local knowledge by not holding back when riding into (what became apparent soon!) dark bends.
A decent front light is useful but not essential as we ride as a group and at least two of us are properly lit.
We are still working on lap records and how many per night but 3 shouldn’t be beyond most people (but if one is enough, that’s fine)
It really is the perfect set up, a pint in the community centre after (keeping the invalid chairman company), a lovely warm smug feeling when you finish, as lets face it what is the alternative? Eastenders / Coro’…
You know where you can find me on Thursday evenings…. What’s keeping you?!
Cheers
