Ride Blog Post New Entry

Sportives

Posted by BigV on January 10, 2010 at 3:09 PM

I see that people are starting to sign up for sportives:

Martyn Allan - The Dragon Ride,

Marty Darby - The Cheshire Cat

Kay Adkins - Looking at Manchester to Blackpool

Dave Ford - looking at doing the Norwich 100

Big V - Midland Monster, Cheshire Cat and will be signing up for The Whitehorse Challenge, thinkng about Norwich 100

Maybe we can use this blog as the place where everyone can say what they are doing; it will also make it easier for people to coordinate with one another if they want to join up with someone

It might also be the place to tell one another how the traing is going, possibly as a waa of goading/motivating each other into action. You know, things like "OK, it's been snowing for the last week. I've been out three times on the trusty single speed; had to turn back after half an hour on the second one because the blizzard meant I couldn't see the front wheel. Never mind, hopped on the turbo and did pyramid instead. in fact, been on the turbo every day except Thursday. So, not out on the bike as such but am managing to keep some semblence of t.raining."

As you are doubtless aware, there are all sorts out there.

Vern
im just in the middle of a restructure on the forum page that will have an "events" section that we can organise into a chronological order , this should work better as you can have a section for each event

I was thinking about Jodrell Bank but can't decide if it might be a bit close to Cheshire Cat, both time and geography.... And having looked at Martyn A's list of Audax there's another possible closer to home - Three Fields, 13th March http://www.buggc.freeserve.co.uk/3fields100.htm

Hi Vern,
I will also do the Midland Monster and the Evans ride-it.
Anybody fancy doing the Jodrell Bank ride in March?

Martyn makes a good point about sportive cost and the lack of with audaxs, when i listed my objectives this year... one a month, all well and good but at £25 each plus petrol etc etc a NOT insignificant amount of money, mmm

Quite correct mark ,for those people like me who are either on a budget or do a full program the average price audax is around £4 compared to £25/£30 for a sportive

Sounds like a good idea. Will need lots of motivating when I can eventually start training! Just had the day in bed suffering from food poisoning. Feeling better a bit better now.... What will tomorrow bring? I might go out and look at my bikes in the morning just to remind myself that they are still there!

no problem thanks for the interest http://www.buggc.freeserve.co.uk/audax.htm these all start and finish at rodgers lane car park alfreton and of course we have our own events hosted by matt

Good idea Martyn. Do you have a list of (local) events that people might be interested in?
