Imagine my surprise on a cold January evening as Andy and I pulled into the Groom car park to find 3 keen lads already with their bikes out of the car and semi kitted up. Howard had made the journey from Lincoln, then there were 2 new faces, John from Pleasley and Matt from Barlbrough. Everyone had better bikes than me and looked quite fit. I had already been to the gym in the morning assuming there would not be ayone daft enough to turn up and that we would just do a quick blast before returning to the pub, I was more than a little worried.
We set off and although it was cold it was not too windy, a short bit of road then we dodged into the woods, not too muddy things were looking up. The ride almost met with disaster when Andy decided to let me ride at the front but I managed to remember where I needed to go without geting lost (a first for me). I had also remembered to remove the Specialised tyres mentioned in the previous blog. I chopped them up into small pieces, before taking them to the recycling dump and replaced them with a pair of Continental Explorers, three cheers for tyres that work. We kept a steady pace and all enjoyed it. In all we covered around 13 miles before returning to the Groom, fairly muddy for a well earned pint and a couple of pork pies, feeling smug that we had been out .
