MTB ride Blue Bell, Bolsover 09/03/10

Posted by Adam Galley on March 10, 2010 at 12:44 PM

As this ride is so close to my house I decided to ride up to the pub, good job I did coz my chain snapped after a couple of turns of the cranks. Not far from my tools so when I had finished swearing it was a quick fix. I did however miss the start and the nice downhill to the rear of Bolsover Castle. Nevermind, there were 7 other riders that had turned out and I met them at the bottom of the first desent. I tagged along sure that rest of the ride was going to be uphill as it was one devised by Andy, no matter what way round you do one of his rides it is always uphill.

I wasn't dissapointed, after a few miles on the flat ish Stockley trail we started to climb up to Glapwell, through Bramley Vale into murder wood where we hit "the big slippery hill", I struggle on this one in the dry. To my surprise I rode it all. So chuffed I stopped in Ault Hucknall for a celebratory wee, as did a few others.

We pressed on to the back of Hardwick and the Teversal/Pleasley Triangle, some rather special singletrack followed, much better in the dark. A democratic decision was made and we cut off about 20 minutes from the ride as the ground was quite heavy, at one point Keith's tyres went from 2.5's to 2.9's. We landed back at the Blue Bell, Bolsovers aclaimed CAMRA pub at about 8.30 where we enjoyed some beer, reliving the clasic ride we had just completed. 8 riders started (and finished) this ride of about 12 or 13 miles this week, if we keep going on at this rate we will be into double figures before the clocks go forward.

i did!! my MTB being safely locked in my mates garage in Sheff, i was the token idiot on a crosser!! tyres did cut through mud but narrow bars sometimes dont help when it all gets squirrily and the gears are too big slippery muddy slopes.... stand up - back wheel slips - you fall off.

sounds a cracking ride mate , wish i had been there especially for the hills...fancy riding 2.5" tyres in mud , get some 1.5" or 1.75" tyres on there and feel the difference !!
