MTB Ride 27th July

worksop local , Keith Twigg created a cracking route tonight, surprising us with some exceptional little pockets of riding in the flatlands just to the north of worksop

the ride route can be seen here, and was just over 28km , but did feel like more and certainly had a large amount of fun

A good turn out saw Keith , Neil , Steve & Aaron , myself and new face Lucy (competitior on the GB team for the world MTB orienteering champs) take flight from the Lock Keeper after waiting for Vern to make his way all the way over from Tibshelf

a short blast of Urban biking took us from the lock keeper to Gateford , a few trails showing just enough ruts and holes to trap the unwary or challenge those on the full rigids like myself. Occasionally a dramatic smell would appear that i am still not sure if it came from Neil or the local sewage works

Wide trails at the side of farmers fields kept the heart rate high and warmed the body up nicely but kept the attention levels subdued until we arrived at the woods just adjacent to the butterfly house outside North Anston. Here keith led us around a looping circuit that just seemed to flow perfectly with fast rolling tracks through the woods and the occasional hop over downed trees...we only did one circuit but if im honest i would have loved to stay there for hours.

A bit more urban biking dropped us into the heavenly section of  Anston Stone Woods, and im already planning another visit there as again, the tracks just seemed to flow and flow and flow some more...

The final section would noramlly have been a let down , as battling through the recently surfaced towpath sections back into Worksop are not normally my idea of good mountain biking , but somehow it just seemed the right way to cap off the evening, bettered only by being able to sit outside the pub and have a good beer or two with some great people

Thanks Keith...Top ride !!!

You need to check the link methinks. Sounds like another good route - I'll have to get off my backside and come on one of these rides.
