Some of you may remember that I mentioned this at one of the meetings last year. I happened upon the 2009 event and thought that this looked like an excellent event for us to get involved in - plus Weston Park is Steve Peat's charity of choice and is where the proceeds of the Wharncliffe Weekender are donated.

The event is on Saturday 5 June and we'd need a team of 12 to 17 people plus reserves and a support crew. At last year's event it appeared that each team pitched up with a gazebo (yes, we will have one with our logo) / barbeque / beer for the day. If we're up for this, we'd need to pay £100 deposit to secure a place and raise an additional £550 in sponsorship (about £40.00 each).

I spoke to Catherine Newman earlier today - there are already 15 teams registered and they have space for 30, so we'd need to get moving. I assume that we'd be OK to pay the deposit from club funds to save chasing 20 lots of £5.00.

If you're up for this, let me know as soon as possible - ideally by the weekend as I'd like to get our place reserved. We would then have enough time to get a team into shape.

I received confirmation today that we have a boat in the Dragon Boat Regatta on Saturday 5 June, which just leaves the small matter of getting a crew together...so far I have 8 people interested - me, Steve, Adam, Andy, Vern, Dave Ford, Jamie Clarke and Leigh Lancaster, who has previous experience having taken part in the event before.

If anyone else is interested (hope so), there is still plenty of room in the boat as we can have  a crew of up to 17. We need a drummer too. Supporters (WAGs, kids, family) would be more than welcome as we WILL have our own marquee plus beer and a barbie.

Once I have the crew manager's stuff from Weston Park I will post an update and arrange a meeting for everyone who is interested to let you know what's involved.
