Who are the qualified coaches in the club? For us newcomers it would be great to know who they are. Perhaps they can be posted on the website so comunication can be made with them to get advice on suitable training for the disciplines we wish to try.

Hi Alan

we have more experience than coaches at the moment , but plans to change that.

We have six coaches qulaified to level 2 but this only allows coaching of under 16's. Jamie Clark has taken his level 3 , which qualifies him as a BMX coach and im looking to take my MTB Level 3 this year.

As far as road coaches go , we have access to several , one of which is a second claim member but i know is very busy with his primary club

that leaves one member who has buckets of experience but no formal qualifications...if your after something specific i can put you in touch with him....(after ive asked him first of course)

Hi Alan, I am one of the Level 2 Coaches at the Club but also a qualified Triathlon Coach - and I can coach adults as well as children in that role.

I'm  a USA cycling qualified coach.  I'm waiting for a visa to come through to work in the USA so don't have a business set up here but I'm happy to do some ad hoc coaching, provide help and advice where needed.

Thanks Jo and Kay.

From my profile you can see I am used to training and having a regulaur schedule from my athletics coach. Now I have moved over to cycling I am looking for the same.

I retire July 2011 so will have alot of time on my hands. During the coming year i intend to do Time Trials, maybe some Audax and Sportives. Then in the winter of 2011  have a go at Cyclo cross because there are age group categories.

I hope that is help for you to give me some advice

I have some 12 week programmes.  Do you have heart rate monitor? Power meter?  Do you know your functionalt hreshold from your race pace?  I'm guessing that with your athletics background , you do.  You will no doubt be aware that the demands of Time Trialling are different from Sportive and Audax.  Both can support each other but if you want to focus on one discipline more than another then specificity is key - diferent muscle and cardiovascular requirements and therefore different training?

Yes Vern i do have a heart monitor and i do know my threshold. Being new to cycling I'm not sure what  I would be best doing. I think I would like to specialise in time triallng so if you can help me I would be most grateful. i need something to focus on  or I will get bored and lose interest

Well Alan, bet you're bored at the moment.  So, here's something to wrrap your head around.  It's my understanding that for some reason heart rate zones worked out for running aren't necessarily the ones used on the bike - "maximum heart rate" in running can be lower than on the bike :/ so you'll need do a HR test on the bike to find your FT.  I suggest you surf the net to decide which one you feel like doing or simply go as hard as you can for 1hr - average HR will be your FT.  A  shorter one is to thoroughly warm up including a mix of i minute high cadence intervals and 1 minute power intervals.  Multiply average HR for the 20 mins by 0.95 to get FT. Given the white stuff that's lying around, you hopefully have access to a trainer of some sort. :D

Looking at you running on the track I'm thinking you are probably more into the speed than endurance so TT doe seem to be an appropriate focus....   :)
