I know I'm not one to talk, having been absent for most of the summer but where has the enthusiasm for Tuesday night MTB rides gone? I understand that work pressures and illness get everybody at this time of year but we regularly got 6 riders out every Tuesday last winter and if they all came at the same time we could probably have got double figures. I thought I would just start the ball rolling to see if there are any of you out there with any thoughts/ideas to see if we can resurrect what have been fun rides and maybe why things have gone quiet? I for one would be happy to lead rides now when I can, now that I know the routes reasonably well to take the pressure off the likes of Andy B and Steve.

Bit hampered at the minute Si as the missus is on holiday. So work and childminding getting in the way. I am keen to get out on tuesdays, and not ridden most of the winter routes. Myself and big kev are also going to try and get out on a regular weekend ride as well. Hoping to get to Cannock in the next few weeks and a trip up to Dalby. Will keep you posted

I think it mainly comes down to a lack of an established routine..each ride definately NEEDS a leader, it differs from a road ride in that (especially at night) you cant really jus ad lib something if the leader turns up. Up to press the only real leaders have been andy Brickles (mainly) and me, so if either of us cant come we have to take decisison to scrap the ride, and we have to do this reasonably early so we dont leave people hanging. Shame that illness has knocked a good few weeks on the head recently, especially as there are new people wanting to come out and join us. Dont forget we agreed to have a ride in the peaks on the 3rd December (saturday) , hopefully we can all make that /

Maybe that's the point Steve. Perhaps me need some deputies to take over from you and Andy to take the pressure of you fellas? Maybe there would be a sufficient pool in the rest of us that could be leant on from time to time to lead rides that we know well enough as a fall back? This should be able to be done enough in advance to keep all potential riders for that evening in the loop via the website and possibly the Tues ride the week before?

Just a quick point Steve, but it's The Peak, not Peaks ;). I am well up for it on December 3rd. Also looking to enter the Dark and White MBO event on 11th december. Can enter as singles or pairs and it is a 3hour event around the matlock area. Hopefully myself and MBS are entering but there are a series of events running through the winter including one at sherwood pines, and one around linacre and holymoorside.

I would still be keen for regular mtb rides at weekends, but having tried to organise these before and mainly ended up riding by myself I have sort of given up. Will try and get something sorted after Jane gets back off holiday

Thanks Pete, ill discuss a shift to a 7pm start time at the comittee meeting, that might help numbers too, and in the winter it wont make any odds to the available daylight, however in Summer you want to maximise what you can get out of the rides so its likely to shift back to 6:30 then... by the way badger WTF is that profile picture all about?

I'm keen to get a weekend ride going, preferably on a Saturday afternoon if possible. At the moment I don't have the lights for evening rides but it may be something that I build up to. I'd be interested in the trips to Dalby and Cannock too.

Put me forward for Pines and Clumber Tuesday rides Steve but you'll need someone else for those too just in case I'm away. I'll be entering the D&W night ride at Carsington on 16th December if anyone else is up for that plus those mentioned by the Noddy Holder in the New Year. The Badger and I tried a few weekend rides Gav but I think they suffered by clashing with the road rides on the weekend but keen to support anything if I'm around. Keep it coming folks.......

Simon, not Noddy Holder, but The Dark Mad Hatter:lol:. I had to go to a fancy dress party for Jane's cousins 40th. Being the badger the black and white nature of the costume appealed to me. I actually won first prize for best costume so up yours Mr Crapper:P. Simon will be up for the Carsington Night ride. Do you want to do it as a pair? Gavin. Will keep you posted on the Cannock / Dalby trips. My preference for w/e rides is morning, especially in the winter with short days. However will be happy to compromise if we can get a regular ride going. Keen to get out Saturday if anyone up for it. It would have to be a lunchtime start though as I have to work in the morning and drop my kids off at my mums.

I seem to have been unable to get any decent time out on the bike recently. Had the odd ride here and there but not with any consistency. Managed to get out twice this week, first time I've done that for ages. Paid the price for it though! Riding some of the big bits up in Wharncliffe and I had a bit of a crash. Hit a loose rock at speed and ended up flying head first into a boulder. Managed to avoid the worst of it though so I've only got minor bruising and scrapes but managed to mangle my glasses and rip the rear mech off the bike. Happy days! Should be back in working order by Saturday 3rd though so I'm hoping to make myself available for the ride. Any ideas where the ride will be yet?
