Just a quick post to see if this is still going ahead. Nothing on the calendar but I know people were interested at the club social. I'm up for it and have a route planned starting from Hathersage. I know there is a clash with the hill climb however if any of those boys are keen we could head out after that has finished?

Cheers

Hi Jules,

It was originally planned at the last social as a 3-4 hour jaunt instead of heading off to a distant trail centre. Not sure what will happen now as it has not been posted on the calendar. My original plan was to do a 45km loop round the hope valley that is in the white peak mtb guide. Have subsequently changed my mind about this as i have done it a few times this year. Now thinking of doing the first bit of this up onto Shatton Moor  then down Brough Lane. Linking through to Gores farm descent via win hill, Hope cross and Lockerbrook farm. Then loop round derwent reservoir and climb upto whinstone lee tor. Drop down into bamford and pick up the rest of the hope valley circuit, which climbs up hurst clough lane. Then climbs up to the top of stanage via the long causeway and descends via the plantation before dropping back into Hathersage. The good thing about this is the hard climbing and descent are in the last 1/2 and there are loads of points were people can peel off to shorten the ride.

The climb upto Shatton moor is great. Not too technical just keeps coming. Win Hill is steady with the rocky descent past hope cross down to the snake is a bit of a bone shaker but not too bad. The next climb is steady then the descent to gores farm is great. The next bit ive not done up to Whinstone Lee Tor but it is supposed to be great.

Hurst clough lane is a short shocker and the long causeway is steady at first but just keeps building. Plantation descent is ok -ish after the 1st bit which is exposed and technical, but very short. When we have an idea of numbers I will be able to taylor the ride accordingly.

Cheers

I'm still hoping to make it too.  Main bike is in need of repairs though so I may have to dust off the spare.

Ballsed up a bit by double booking the hillclimb at the same time, im never going to be able to get enough passes to run that event, come mountain biking and get a sunday ride in too, so ill have to pass on this one. Think theres enough of you to make a good go of it, and between Craig and Simon , there are two great leaders..

Post all details here craig and ill text / email everyone to try and drum up a few more..

I wish there were more cycling hours in the day, perhaps i should get one of those public service jobs.....

Meeting point will be Hathersage swimmimg pool pay & display car park which is located on Oddfellows Road, Hathersage, Hope Valley. S32 1DU.

Free parking is available on Oldfellows road as well, but the car park is there if the road is busy.

If we can aim for a 9am start. The ride will be 3 to 4 hours in duration, however the route can be tailored to suit on the day. There will be several options to shorten the route depending on weather conditions and riders fitness (not sure how I will cope as hardly been getting out recently)

Please ensure that you bring spare tubes, pump, waterproof, food etc as we will be covering some fairly remote terrain at times. There will also be the possibility of a cafe stop.

If anyone requires transport I have 2 spaces free for people and bikes. Please let me know by friday evening by calling me on 07790 300203.

Cheers

Got everything ready to go, so long as I can drag myself out of bed tomorrow morning I will be there.  Even managed to fix my bike (I think) so don't need to dust off the spare.

I should be there before 9, if for some reason I can't make it I will send you a text to let you know.

Got a diet of beer and pizza on the go to prep for the ride.  Guess who's going to be last one up the hills?
