Anyone any ideas where i can get a gear shifter serviced / repaired. I cant shift down the gears unless i hold one lever while i push the other across. although its shifts back up perfectly. Its Dura ace so should be worth repairing but I'm not a fan of the customer service of the big local bike shop and igloo cycles in ches weren't keen on opening up a shifter. Any advice welcome

Moderator Posts: 457 | John , these shifters just aren't designed to be serviceable , and as a consequence you won't find many people willing to take a look , and with most bike shops wanting to recover at least £30 an hour , getting them to take a look can soon become expensive. That said , I've only really ever come across shifters at the cheaper end of the market that have mechanically failed , they are extremely durable pieces of kit normally. What usually happens us that something alien makes its way into the mechanism , and that little Alien can often be removed or flushed out if the outer shell of thd shifter can be removed enough to expostethe innards , again , not always the easiest job as they aren't designed for this sort of intervention. If you get really stuck if be happy to take a look

The interdevil is a wonderful thing, heres some comprehensive info on how to strip and reassemble the levers if you are feeling brave http://norvil.net/pedal/service/shimanosti/index.php Interestignly the site quotes on several occasions Shimano having a three year warranty on Dura Ace , might be worth getting in touch with Madison, the UK distributor
