To help those that have long sportives as 2012 challenges , the usual Sunday ride planned for the 29th (see link below for full details ) will have the optional extension through fabled cycling territory of the Strines and up to Langsett Cafe.

This will turn the ride into something close to 80 miles.

Those riders just wanting to stick to the usual 55 to 60 miles can continue on through bamford, Castleton and onwards to stick to the normal route.

Please note two things

a) The extension will be very weather dependant, the Strines is hard territory, and tough weather makes this exstension treacherous, so in the case of very wet weather , blustery wind, or risk of Ice ...this epic will be postponed for another day.

b) Please be releastic about your ability, this is a stretching ride, needing decent legs and sensible feeding throughout the ride. Please do not underestimate the challenge..if you are unsure, post here and we will be honest about how we think you will fair

usual route can be seen below, a slight tweak to the route through Sheffield might well occur to make the ride to Rivelin a little more direct

Alex and G signed in for the Strines version - weather providing..... Bring a couple of extra bars/gels and allow for a cyclists lunch at the Langsett cafe!

I'll have an easy week to see if I can summon  the energy for this,  happy with the distance and hills, but can't do 40 mph up them :-)

Ill be there for the Strines Loop, looking forward to it !

Dont forget , that this additional loop is optional and theres no obligation in it, so the normal 50odd mile route will still be going ahead and will need a few regulars to help lead this portion

If my legs feel decent(and my mind is optimistic) i'll have a crack at the full 80miler, if not i'll hang my head and take the shorter option. I would really like to nail a tough 80mile Peak District ride this early in the year. ( I wonder if eBay sells EPO? lol)

At this stage I'm not sure if I'll be back home on Sunday, but if I am I'll give the Strines a go. I'll update with a definite yes or no on Saturday evening.

due to my abilities and the predicted weather tomorrow - i won't be joining you guys on the ride tomorrow - i will, however, be having a spin on the old Turbo. If it turns out too cold to go out and play for some of you I'll be starting at 10 - you'll be welcome to join me.

Great ride out today lads - thanks to all who helped pull/push my old legs along the 79miles!! The last 20miles my legs died @ Foxhouse, so i took a detour via Beauchief,Norton,Gleadless, Mosborough - Renishaw.

Thanks again, enjoyed the craic (as we Irish say) & the "wee light breakfast" @ Langsett reservoir cafe certainly did the trick!
